May is National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM). Omni is proud to celebrate this month designated by Congress that encourages Americans to learn about United States military history, celebrate patriotism, and honor the services and sacrifices of our soldiers. While Memorial Day is the most well-known holiday in May, there are several other meaningful days that fall within this special month.
Important Dates for Military Appreciation Month
Loyalty Day – Tuesday, May 1

Public Service Recognition Week – May 6 – May 12

Victory in Europe Day – Tuesday, May 8
Victory in Europe Day celebrates the May 8, 1945 surrender of Germany in World War II. Learn more about VE day.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day – Friday, May 11
Traditionally observed the Friday before Mother’s Day, this day recognizes the important role military spouses play in supporting America’s soldiers.
Armed Forces Day – Saturday, May 19
Always celebrated on the third Saturday in May, Armed Forces Day was created by Secretary Louis Johnson, to honor the men and women serving in all branches of the U.S. military. Armed Forces Day replaced separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force Days.
Memorial Day – Monday, May 28
Observed the last Monday in May, Memorial Day commemorates the soldiers who died while serving our country. Throughout the country, local communities have Memorial Day parades to salute the military and fallen heroes. The largest parade in the United States is the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. presented by the American Veterans Center.
